Sizing
How Much RAM Does a VPS Need?
A practical RAM sizing guide for websites, bots, automation, databases, and development environments.
Important: VPS pricing, stock, free credits, and eligibility can change. Use source labels to distinguish provider references from demo fields, and verify current terms directly with the provider.
RAM is workload capacity, not a score by itself
More RAM only helps when software can use it. The goal is enough memory for the operating system, application, database, cache, workers, and short spikes while keeping a safety margin. Buying far more than the workload uses can waste money that would be better spent on CPU, storage, backups, or network capacity.
1–2 GB RAM
Suitable for a minimal Linux server, tiny website, lightweight bot, VPN, simple development environment, or single automation worker. Avoid stacking heavy databases, dashboards, and browsers on the same small instance.
4 GB RAM
A strong general-purpose baseline for small production apps, several containers, bots, modest databases, development tools, and API-driven agent workloads. It leaves more room for package updates and traffic bursts than a 1 GB server.
8–16 GB RAM
Useful for browser automation, multiple workers, larger databases, CI builds, remote development, several services, or workloads with unpredictable concurrency. Monitor actual use before scaling further.
Measure before upgrading
Watch resident memory, swap use, OOM events, container limits, and peak usage. Sustained swapping or out-of-memory kills are clearer reasons to add RAM than an arbitrary sizing rule.
Plan verification
RAM is only one dimension of VPS value.
- Open the provider-owned pricing or product page before purchasing.
- Treat stock as live only when Koba explicitly labels the signal as live.
- Confirm region, IPv4 terms, transfer limits, taxes, and renewal pricing.
- Check payment and identity requirements for your own country and account.
